Recent Advances in Piezoelectric Materials for Electromechanical Transducer Applications

چکیده

Ferroelectricity has made a huge impact on science and technology since Joseph Valasek (then Ph.D. student at the University of Minnesota) discovered it in 1920, little longer than 100 years ago. Whereas Dr. Valasek’s original research was motivated by need to develop seismic sensors, present ferroelectric materials have been extensively studied for applications high-energy capacitors, energy harvesting systems, night vision electrocaloric solid cooling, and, particular significance, ferroelectrics are material-of-choice numerous electromechanical devices, including underwater acoustic transducers, medical diagnostic therapeutic piezoelectric actuators, ultrasonic motors, name few. The progress over past enormous is ongoing: example, coefficient d increased from few pico-Coulomb per Newton several thousand Newton, which benefits all sensing actuation devices.

Advances in Lead-Free Piezoelectric Materials for Sensors and Actuators

Piezoelectrics have widespread use in today's sensor and actuator technologies. However, most commercially available piezoelectric materials, e.g., Pb [Zr(x)Ti(1-x)] O(3) (PZT), are comprised of more than 60 weight percent lead (Pb). Due to its harmful effects, there is a strong impetus to identify new lead-free replacement materials with comparable properties to those of PZT. This review highl...

1-3 Piezoelectric Composites for High Power Ultrasonic Transducer Applications

In this paper, we demonstrated that 1-3 PZT/polymer composites, fabricated using PZT-4 ceramic and a polymer possessing a high glass transition temperature and low loss, can be used as high power ultrasonic transducer materials for high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) applications. The mechanical quality factor of the 1-3 composite with 64% ceramic volume fraction is over 200. The dielectri...
